Kat Danser & the Tall Tales, January 27, 2023
Edmonton's own Kat Danser has spent most of her life trawling the backstreets of the blues, and her sixth album One Eye Open reflects the fruits of her exploration. The past rides shotgun with the present on everything Danser, dubbed "Queen of the Swamp Blues", sings and plays.
Diyet and the Love Soldiers, February 10, 2023
Diyet & The Love Soldiers is alternative country, folk, roots and traditional with catchy melodies and stories deeply rooted in Diyet’s Indigenous world view and northern life. Diyet sings in both English and Southern Tutchone (her native language) and plays bass guitar. Backed by Love Soldiers: husband and collaborator, Robert van Lieshout and Juno Award winning producer, Bob Hamilton; this trio multi instrumental trio from the Yukon has a sound that can fill a big stage or capture an intimate room.
Rosier, February 24, 2023
Reclaiming and interpreting the romantic traditions of Que´be´cois folk, the bilingual band Rosier was born from a place of living heritage. A group who spent their formative years wrapped in rich, untouched musical traditions, they are just as attuned to the present and the future, challenging and redefining their world through a modern lens.
Kacy & Clayton, March 10, 2023
The music Kacy and Clayton make is inextricable from where they grew up. They sing about the kind of people you’d find in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan (population: very few). The hills, barns and remoteness of the area are in these songs, with a bittersweet acknowledgement that this music has taken them far from home. Kacy Anderson and Clayton Linthicum’s new album Carrying On follows the international acclaim for their previous records Strange Country and The Siren’s Song.
Double Bill: Ben Sures / Over the Moon, March 24, 2023
A cheeseball Canadian trying to play his instrument like a West African, Sinti swing style guitarist? A crooner, balladeer, country picker, funny songwriter, slide player? These are all true descriptors, but stripped to the core Ben Sures is a talented and distinctive songwriter. Not one shaped by commercial radio, but by stories he’s collected traveling across North America, Europe and Beirut - these are the stories that his audience warms to.
Canadian roots/swing duo Over The Moon's Suzanne Levesque and Craig Bignell are multi-instrumentalists/vocalists that met, fell in love, and discovered their voices blend so well together that people often tear up upon hearing them sing. Living on a ranch in the foothills of Alberta's Rocky Mountains, it's inevitable there will be a strong sense of place- and the rhythms of the land when you start to make music. Their music is a wild ride from 40's sounding western swing and Appalachian old-time, to cowboy blues.
John Reischman and the Jaybirds, April 14, 2023
Like the powerful mandolinist and composer at its helm, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned, sophisticated and stripped-down, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary.
