Join New Moon Folk Club for their double-bill presentation of Braden Gates and Linda McRae and Doug Cox on Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. Basil's Cultural Centre, 10819 71 Ave NW. Doors open at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM.
Edmonton's own Braden Gates is a folk singer, through and through, and in the best possible sense of the word. His songs are full of stories that flow through him easily, and with all the grace, empathy and nuance that masterful story-telling requires. Born and raised in Sturgeon County, Braden grew up listening to his father Troy playing old-time tunes on the fiddle, and then playing himself. It was getting into John Hartford in his mid-teens (for the fiddle, at first) that turned him on to the craft of songwriting, leading him to the great storytellers of the firmament - Guy Clark, John Prine, Todd Snider.
Linda McRae and
Doug Cox are two of Canada’s finest. You can hear the past and the present in their instrumentation, their stories and their songs. A rare treat in an intimate setting. What a long, strange – and delightful – trip it continues to be! With sixty years’ experience and countless performances between them, these veteran award winning recording artists each with a menagerie of stories to tell, a truckload of strings and things in their arsenal and preponderance of songs will have you glued to your seat listening to their every word, sometimes laughing, singing along, tapping your toes and humming their melodies for days afterward.
Tickets are $25, plus applicable fees. No physical or electronic tickets will be provided. You will need to have your order confirmation ready at the door.
