A gem of a performance space, Convocation Hall was opened in 1915 and holds an audience of 426 people. A rectangular room wrapped by balcony on three sides, the seating in Convocation Hall is fixed, theatre style. The venue is most suitable for recitals and chamber music ensembles, although larger ensembles can be accommodated.
There are two nine-foot Steinway Concert Grand pianos in Convocation Hall. The New York Steinway was refurbished in 2007 and is available for rent for most performances and events. The Hamburg Steinway is available by special arrangement only. Convocation Hall is also home to the Department's fortepiano, harpsichord and Casavant organ.
