Crystal Driedger is an internationally published and award winning illustrator & artist. She is well known for her relief carvings that are painted using acrylics. She discovered that carved wood has very interesting and beautiful patterns that can be accentuated using paint. Each piece is carved in pine (sometimes basswood/tupelo or cedar) using a dremel, chisels and mallet.
Crystal’s career started when she graduated from Grant MacEwan College in 2003 with a diploma in Design & Illustration. She was hired to illustrate for a company that made gift bags, wrapping paper and children’s books that sold at Walmart, American Greetings, Costco, Dollar Tree, Barnes & Noble and more. In 2007 she left the shop and opened her own studio where she has continued to create work for the licensing world as well as educational material, children's books and editorial work. She teaches illustration techniques part time to 3rd year MacEwan Design & Illustration students.
