Understanding that it is nature that creates and that a person can only expand on, or interpret the original beauty of rock, Chrys has concentrated on creating inukshuit (plural of inukshuk) stone structures that communicate knowledge necessary for Inuit survival in the Arctic. His media is the rock in its original state as the Inuit would use to build their inukshuit in the treeless north. Each inukshuk Chrys creates is unique; there can never be two the same nor even similar. No machining or sculpturing is done to change the appearance of the rock. Nature created the desired shapes.
Creating the inukshuit using natural rock shapes is a recent creative undertaking by Chrys, who is a professional engineer. Visual arts, be they paintings, original Eskimo prints or sculptures were always of great interest to Chrys. Visiting art shows and galleries was always on the must do list. Appreciating and observing the creative work of others prompted Chrys to try his hand at creating the inukshuit you see.
