Hi, my name is Sally Abbott and this is the story of Tweeling. My first sock monkeys were made for my then toddler twins, then it was a few more for family and friends. In May 2009 I opened an Etsy shop with a few monkeys, and things just grew from there. When it came to naming the shop I wanted something that reflected the reason I started making sock monkeys, which was my kids. After a somewhat exhausting search I settled on Tweeling, which means twin in Dutch. What started as just basic sock monkeys has now grown into a collection of all sorts of sock critters. I started making items ranging from birds to monkeys to pillow pals (made with repurposed fabric and socks) with lots of other things in between. I always get asked how I come up with ideas; well really they just come out of my head. I don’t use patterns and each critter is a little bit different than the last. I am often inspired by things I see around me, it maybe a person, or event or sometimes just a combination of colours. I welcome custom orders and love a new challenge making someone’s idea come to life in a sock critter.
